Trim an audio file
Cut the dead air off the ends and take out any piece from the middle, watching the waveform and hearing exactly what you will get. An MP3 cut here keeps every bit it had.

How it works
Add your file
Any audio: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC or WMA. The waveform is drawn from the sound itself, so silences and loud passages are visible immediately.
Mark what goes
Drag the ends in to trim, or put the playhead where a piece begins, press Cut start, move on and press Cut end — then delete that piece. As many as you like, and every step can be undone.
Download the result
The pieces you kept, joined into one file. The result says whether anything had to be re-encoded, and normally nothing did.
Frequently asked questions
Does trimming an MP3 lose quality?
Not here. The encoded sound is copied frame by frame rather than decoded and encoded again, so the result is bit for bit what it was. That is the difference between cutting and re-encoding, and most online cutters quietly do the second. Ticking "Exact cut" is the one case where we re-encode, and the page says so.
What is "Exact cut" and when do I need it?
Compressed sound is stored in small frames — about 26 milliseconds for an MP3 — and a copied cut can only begin at a frame boundary. That is inaudible for almost everything. Tick "Exact cut" when you need the cut on a precise sample, accepting one re-encode to get it.
Can I remove a piece from the middle?
Yes, and as many as you like. Mark each piece and delete it; what is left is joined into one continuous file. This is how you take out a cough, a phone ringing, or five minutes of setup before the interview starts.
Can I undo a cut?
Every step, with the undo button or ⌘Z. A deleted piece can also be put straight back from the list, and nothing is written until you press Trim — so the original file on your device is never touched at all.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. The file is read, the waveform drawn and the cut made entirely by your own browser. Nothing is sent anywhere, which matters when the recording is an interview, a lecture or a private conversation.
How long a file can I trim?
Hours. Because a copied cut does not decode the sound, trimming a long recording takes about as long as reading the file. The waveform is drawn once when you drop it in, which is the slowest part.
Good to know: Without "Exact cut", each piece begins on the nearest frame boundary — a few hundredths of a second either side of the point you picked. Fades between joined pieces are not available yet, so a cut in the middle of loud music can click.
