What actually gets repaired?
Most "corrupt" PDFs are structurally intact but have a broken cross-reference table — the index that says where each object lives. Truncated downloads, interrupted saves and buggy generators all cause it, and readers refuse the file even though the content is still there. Rebuilding that index brings the document straight back.
What if the file cannot be parsed at all?
Then the raw bytes are scanned for object headers, everything still present is collected, and a fresh index and trailer are written around them — the same recovery a desktop tool performs. The result is opened again before you receive it, so a file that still will not load is reported instead of downloaded.
Is my broken file uploaded?
No. Even the recovery scan runs in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Can it recover a file that was truncated mid-download?
Often, yes — up to the point where the data stops. Pages that were never downloaded cannot be invented, so you may get the first part of the document back rather than all of it.
Will it repair a password-protected PDF?
Encryption is ignored during repair, so a protected file may come back readable only if you also have the password. Use Unlock PDF for that separately.
Good to know: Repair recovers what is still in the file — it cannot reconstruct data that is genuinely missing. If a document was truncated, the pages after the cut are gone for good. Files damaged inside their compressed streams may recover with some pages blank.
